DIY Orange Cleaner

I am sure by now you have seen a variety of DIY cleaner recipes around the blogosphere. Because I am striving to be a one-stop-shop for all things homemade I decided to post one of my own. This orange cleaner is two ingredients and so simple to make. It is important, in my opinion to use organic citrus when making citrus cleaners. There are chemicals put on the peels of conventional oranges that you don’t want to leech into your cleaner. It defeats the  purpose of a chemical-free cleaning product!

You will need 1 large jar, about 10 medium-sized oranges, and white vinegar. I buy white vinegar buy the gallon because I use it quite often for a variety of projects. If you have children, this is a wonderful project for them to help you with. They can help you eat all the oranges! I juiced mine and then we ate the pulp. All you need is the peel so clean them out as best you can. If a little pulp is left it’s fine.

Place all the peels in the jar and fill to the top with vinegar. Let sit for about 2 weeks, shaking once-in-awhile. You will have a very concentrated cleaning solution so dilute it 1:1 with water and strain into a clean spray bottle. For tougher jobs you can use it straight. To enhance the scent and cleaning power even more, you can add a few drops of citrus essential oils like lemon, orange, or grapefruit. I really love doTERRA Essential Oils.

That’s it! Simple, right? You now have a wonderfully effective natural cleaner and disinfectant that is just as good as any in the store! Use it for kitchens, bathrooms, floors, etc.

Have you made your own cleaning products? What are your favorites?

Enjoy!
